The read asked me if I'd ever looked into Col. Chad McRee.
No, I'm not even aware he was being investigated, I told the reader.
So I submitted a request under the Freedom of Information act to Fort Bragg for the investigation into McRee. I wasn't sure what would come back, or even if it would be newsworthy since the reader explained the investigation had been completed so long ago.
What I found: Col. Mcree was suspended, and later forced to resign command of the 16th Military Police Brigade for violating several core competencies expected of leaders. One of the more interesting complaints was that he routinely kissed the lips of his soldiers' wives.
Fort Bragg moved McRee to a quiet desk job to wait out his retirement. The move was swept under the rug, until the Observer obtained the report and pursued what really happened.
