Sgt. Salvador Marroquin marched across Fort Bragg’s Green Ramp focused and calm – that is, until he saw his wife holding their 4-month-old daughter.
For the past nine months, Marroquin had been dreaming of the moment he would hold his daughter for the first time. She was born while Marroquin was deployed with the 14th Human Resources Sustainment Center, and now he was just minutes away from holding her.
When the troops were released to their families, Marroquin rushed over to his waiting family. He scooped up Camilla for the first time.
“She’s my princess,” he said. “She has my heart already.”
Eager families welcomed home 15 soldiers Monday from the 1st Theater Sustainment Command’s 14th Human Resources Center from a nine-month deployment to Qatar. The soldiers, who had been deployed since November, were responsible for postal, casualty and personnel accountability operations across 6,000 square miles of 20 countries in the Middle East.
